Citilink, a business unit of Garuda Indonesia, requiring at least 40 new pilots to operate four additional aircraft unit until the end of this year.

There are currently 59 cadet pilots are prepared to support additional aircraft fleet plan Citilink, said Director of Strategy and IT Service Garuda Indonesia, Elisa Lumbantoruan in Medan on Tuesday (16/3/2010).

Elisa said the pilot effort in this low-cost airline, is now only enough to operate the existing four aircraft, three Boeing 737-300 and one Boeing 737-400.

"Therefore, to operate four additional aircraft in line with the expansion of flight routes, then this year Citilink still need 20 pilots and 20 co-pilot again," he said.

He estimated that demand for airline pilot labor-based cost (low cost carrier / LCC) such as Citilink, will continue to rise given the LCC market in Indonesia is growing rapidly.

Last year alone, according to Elisa, from a total of 43 million domestic passenger air transport for about 70 percent using low-cost airline. LCC market share is expected to continue to rise because of growth per year, reaching 17-20 per cent while the premium market grew only three to five percent per year, he said.
